Fieldwork & Laboratory Experience

A visual record of practical biology, from biodiversity field courses and helping colleagues with field sampling to molecular biology laboratory work. These photographs span university training, collaborative field assistance and research environments in Greece and Germany.

Wildlife handling note Some photographs on this page show wild animals being handled during supervised university field courses or research activities by trained researchers and students following appropriate field procedures. Wild animals should not be approached, captured or handled casually. Unnecessary contact can cause stress, disrupt normal behaviour and transfer microorganisms or pathogens to animals that may already be vulnerable. The safest and most respectful way to observe wildlife is from a distance and with minimal disturbance.

Greek Fauna Field Course

University of Patras · Biology · Peloponnese, Greece

During the Fauna of Greece course at the University of Patras, we carried out field excursions in the Peloponnese to observe, identify and collect zoological specimens for teaching and laboratory study. The course combined field observation with practical recognition of animal groups, biodiversity, endemism and the biology and conservation of Greek wildlife.

Supporting Field Research

Assisting a fellow student with thesis fieldwork · Greece

I also helped a friend with fieldwork for a thesis project involving Malpolon insignitus. These photographs document that separate field activity and the collection of a specimen for the research project.

Blue Tit & Great Tit Fieldwork

Evolutionary biology fieldwork · LMU Munich

Because my research uses blue tit data, I have also joined fieldwork where blue tit and great tit families were monitored and handled by experienced researchers as part of ongoing research. Seeing the study system directly provided useful biological context for the genomic and epigenomic data I analyse.

Ptarmigan Sampling on the Zugspitze

Zugspitzplatt, Germany · Field assistance

I joined field sampling on the Zugspitzplatt to help collect ptarmigan scat samples. The work involved searching alpine habitat for Lagopus muta fecal samples, recording sampling locations and collecting material carefully for downstream research.

Genetic Engineering & Molecular Biology Laboratory

Plant molecular biology practical work

These photographs are from laboratory practical work involving genetic engineering experiments and molecular biology in a plant laboratory. This training formed part of my broader laboratory background before my later move toward computational genomics and evolutionary biology.
