Research
Evolutionary biology, epigenetics, quantitative genetics, population genomics and computational genomics.
Current research
Evolutionary epigenetics & computational genomics
My PhD focuses on biological and technical variation in large-scale DNA methylation datasets from natural bird populations. I develop and benchmark computational and statistical approaches for RRBS and EM-seq data, including replicate concordance, quality control, missingness, batch effects, genome-wide feature integration and measurement reliability at individual CpG sites.
Quantitative genetic modelling of epigenetic variation
I integrate epigenomic, genomic, pedigree and phenotypic information using mixed models and quantitative-genetic approaches to estimate heritable components of 5mC variation and identify reproducible inter-individual methylation differences.
NGS experimental design & sequencing optimisation
I contributed to experimental and computational planning for a large EM-seq project comprising 1,288 sequencing libraries, including read-depth and coverage modelling, technical replication, quality-control thresholds and coverage–cost trade-offs.
Previous research
Computational gene regulation & deep-learning benchmarking
Developed reproducible workflows to benchmark microT-CNN and other microRNA target-prediction approaches, analysing canonical and non-canonical miRNA–mRNA interactions and algorithmic performance across large computational datasets.
Human multi-omics & vaccine response
Analysed transcriptomic, proteomic and clinical data from human blood to characterise molecular responses to BNT162b2 vaccination across clinical cohorts using differential expression, multivariate analysis, correlation analysis and pathway-level interpretation.
Population genomics & transposable elements
Developed an open-source workflow to integrate transposable-element annotation, genome-wide SNP variation and population-genomic data in Oryza sativa, investigating selective signals around polymorphic transposable-element insertions.
Plant molecular biology
Worked on molecular validation of CRISPR/Cas9-induced lines and functional characterisation of putative Xylella virulence factors using molecular cloning, bacterial transformation and transient-expression assays.
Chromosomal diversity in Mus musculus domesticus
Analysed Robertsonian chromosomal variation and hybrid zones using chromosome preparation, karyotyping and cytogenetic approaches.
